Which companies did PWYP Norway include in its survey?
PWYP Norway set out to examine the world’s most powerful extractive companies. Of the world’s ten largest oil & gas companies, four are state-owned entities and their subsidiaries can therefore be neither traced nor located. TOTAL, also in the top ten, does not disclose the location of its subsidiaries. Therefore PWYP Norway examined the remaining five companies in the top ten:
BP, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, Exxon and Shell
Of the world’s top five mining companies, information was not available for Vale and China Shenhua’s subsidiaries were predominantly located in China, making it a less relevant subsidiary for a global picture. PWYP Norway examined the remaining companies in the top five: Anglo American, BHP and Rio Tinto. PWYP Norway also included in the study Glencore International, the commodities’ giant who recently floated and Barrick Gold, by virtue of it being the largest gold mining company in the world.
Barrick Gold, BHP, Glencore International AG, Rio Tinto plc
PWYP Norway also included three major Norwegian companies:
DNO International, Interoil, and Statoil
