Industri Energi - a member organization of PWYP Norway

What does Industri Energi work with?

Industri Energi is an independent member of the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO) and has approximately 60 000 members. Industri Energi is the biggest and most powerful trade union for employees in the industry and energy sectors of Norway. Our main priority is to ensure reasonable wages and safe working conditions.

Why did Industri Energi choose to become a member organization of PWYP Norway?

While Norwegians benefit from our income from oil and gas activities, 2/3 of the world's poor live in resource-rich countries, they are unable to benefit from the income from natural resources. Natural resources belong to the people, and the people demand access to information on how these resources are being managed.

The people have the right to know how much money their government is receiving from the extractive companies. It is their money that disappears. For instance, when a company does not pay the amount of taxes it should, the state has to compensate for the lack of income. Indebtedness, reduced public services or increased taxes on wage recipients might come as consequences of the lack of income. These consequences have one thing in common: they all affect normal people.

What is the added value of PWYP Norway for the Norwegian civil society?

Publish What You Pay Norway puts important topics on the agenda and leads the struggle to establish laws and regulations that contribute to financial transparency. PWYP Norway has established competence on this topic, which other parts of Norwegian civil society can benefit from.
